Daedra and Brian, childhood friends turned life partners, share a journey that began in the heart of Michigan during the pre-internet era. High school brought them together, college deepened their connection, and in 2001, they embarked on the adventure of marriage, settling in Dearborn, Michigan.

Daedra, armed with a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, initially pursued a career in her field before venturing into the world of entrepreneurship with her own painting business, She Paints. Meanwhile, Brian delved into the realm of computer and information science, honing his skills in the Healthcare IT sector before establishing his own IT company.

The arrival of their first child led Daedra to shift her focus, becoming a Certified Bradley Method Instructor after a transformative natural childbirth experience. However, her entrepreneurial spirit remained undimmed, leading her to explore new avenues of creativity and support for her growing family.

An unexpected opportunity arose when a friend approached Daedra about joining in on a glass straw order from an artist in California. Intrigued by the concept, Daedra sought the guidance of her friend Michelle Plucinsky, owner of the Glass Academy in Dearborn, Michigan. Michelle’s challenge for Daedra to learn glass straw crafting ignited a passion within her, propelling her to become proficient in the art and see the potential for a business opportunity.

In March 2009, Strawesome was born, marking the beginning of a journey fueled by passion, perseverance, and a commitment to sustainability. The early days were challenging, as Daedra and Brian navigated an unfamiliar market landscape, relying on grassroots efforts and face-to-face interactions to spread the word about their innovative glass straws.

As the movement against plastic straws gained momentum, Strawesome found its stride, experiencing significant growth and worldwide impact. 

Today, as the oldest operating glass straw manufacturer in the world, Strawesome stands as a testament to the power of creativity, resilience, and partnership. Daedra and Brian continue to manufacture and distribute sustainable straws to straw lovers who care for themselves and the planet.
